BACKGROUND

For our final project in school, we decided to research social anxiety, more specifically public speaking anxiety and how it can negatively affect our performance in school and later on in work. Four different anxiety disorders can cause fear and anxiety about speaking in front of a group; social anxiety, speech anxiety, stage fright, and performance anxiety. These can be confused because the symptoms are so similar and resemble each other. Social anxiety is the umbrella term, and the other anxiety disorders are subcategories. Anxiety can be treated either by psychological or pharmacological solutions, but different self-treatments can also help. In this project, we focus on self-treatment as the solution for learning how to deal with anxiety.

ASSIGNMENT

To come up with a solution, which includes different self-treatment exercises, that people who experience public speaking anxiety can use as an easy way to help ease their anxiety in various situations in their daily life.

PROBLEM

Social anxiety can lead to feelings like depression, shame, anger, or feeling of missing out on the fun things in life. If not treated, anxiety can cause severe consequences on personal, private, and social lives.

INSIGHT
  • Anxiety can hold us back in our lives, which actually prevents us from achieving our full potential

  • By changing our thought patterns, we can break the vicious cycle which maintains anxiety

SOLUTION

We have created an app, Anxious Speakers.

The idea with our app is to have exercises and tips close at hand that you can easily use when you are about to face an anxious situation.

Our goal with the app is to help people with social anxiety, speech anxiety, stage fright, and performance anxiety to learn how to manage and hopefully reduce their anxiety.

The tonality of the app is calmness, kindness and security, and the choice of colours and the round figures create a feeling of comfort and softness.

Personal diary that you can use to map your anxiety and write reflections.

On every page of the app, you can see a red information symbol and when clicking on that you get to an information bubble. We want to be clear and state that our app is for personal use only and that we don't intend to replace professional care.

Thank you for taking the time to look!
